Club Farewells Fred Bennett

Posted on Monday, July 06, 2015

On Friday, 3rd July a number of Club Members got together to farewell popular Club Member Fred Bennett.

Fred is leaving Old Bar and returning to Canberra after coming here as a economic adviser in 1998. Previously Fred worked for 32 years as an economist with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, followed by a further 5 years in various federal Government Departments, including as head of the Department of Finances during the Whitlam/Fraser era.

Although now retired from competitive tennis, (he represented NSW and Canberra for many years in Australian Veteran's Tennis), Fred has been very involved with the Tuesday and Friday morning groups at our Club ever since he came to Old Bar.

Fred will be greatly missed by his tennis mates who are amazed and inspired at how gracefully he glides around the court in his endeavours to get his returns back over the net.

Fred celebrated his eighty fifth birthday on Sunday, 5th July.
